HEDWIG DE ANGELI COMPOSITION DOLL 14"

Description

VERY RARE Vintage HEDWIG Cecelia Doll With Original Clothing. This 14-inch all original Hedwig doll is probably the Polish Cecelia character from Marguerite de Angeli’s book “Up the Hill.” These Hedwig dolls are named for de Angeli’s friend who designed and made the clothing for the dolls, and it is believed that there are fewer than 100 still in existence, most of which are in the hands of the family or friends of the author, Marguerite de Angeli.
This doll has long blonde hair in braids, green tin eyes with smoky shadow and soft (not painted) eyelashes. She is dressed in her original be-ribbonned dress with lace-trimmed apron, beaded necklaces, lace-up velvet vest with sequins, knit stockings, red lace-up boots, petticoats and underwear. None of it looks like it has ever been removed. She is probably missing a head covering. Circa 1940. Condition is "Used" and clothing is in vintage condition (has an antique patina). Very sweet face.
A tiny spot of lip paint is missing from her lower lip (see photo).
Cecelia also comes with her original Hedwig Dolls paper wrist tag that has been torn and retaped back together. It shows a drawing of four dolls on one side: Lydia, Suzanne, Hannah & Elin.
