DescriptionAntique Belle Epoque era French sterling silver sugar bowl with cobalt blue glass insert. Featuring a reticulated sterling silver framework decorated with stylized acanthus and arabesques. The lid topped by an ornate finial. Resting on decorative feet. Hallmarked with the the French Minerve 1st standard mark. In use from 1838, the mark indicates a silver content of .950/1000 (95% silver and a higher grade than the standard .925 for sterling). Bearing a maker's mark for MASSAT Frères or ‘Maître Orfèvre’, Paul & Eugène MASSAT, active from 1885 at 15 rue Crussol in Paris. In overall good condition with general wear commensurate with age and use. A small edge chip to the rim of the cobalt blue insert. Measures 8 1/2" length x 6 1/4" height x 4 3/4" diameter opening. Total silver weight is 310.8 grams.
